The transport association Rhein-Sieg (VRS) mobilises the Cologne/Bonn region. For this reason, here in the southwest of North Rhine-Westphalia, nine rural and urban districts (Rhein-Erft, Euskirchen, Rhein-Sieg, Rheinisch-Bergisch, Oberbergisch, Cologne, Bonn, Leverkusen and Monheim) have merged to become one syndicated group.
Since its foundation in 1987 the VRS offers the following for the use of public transport:
- uniform tickets
- uniform tariffs
- a coordinated timetable
Every day more than 1.4 million passengers travel within the VRS region. VRS customers can choose between 522 lines - of which 26 DB (German Railways) lines and 18 urban railway or tram lines. There are around 7,448 stops altogether. More and more motorists have discovered that by using public transport they can travel not only conveniently and securely, but also as fast as by car. They are using public transport not only when travelling to work, but also during their leisure time.
